My name is Andrew W. Schachtner. My email address is aschac05@yahoo.com.
The year my father passed away he spent two months at Lizard Lake, enjoying the beauty it had. He spent June and July out there, and passed away in November. The weeks before his death we talked alot about the lake, and the people for and against restoration of the lake. I promised him I would do what I could do to try and save the lake.
What have I done. Last year I called many local and state goverment officials and informed them about the meeting. I asked Iowa states attorneys office to investagate Richard Leopold for conflict of interst. That turned out in his favor. I have called the dnr and told them I am against shallow lake management, and asked how I can stop it on Lizard Lake. The answer was I can't, all the state and local officals are for it. Please understand the dnr are very nice people and helped me in many ways on getting answers. I called Paul Beneke a supervisor for the county and left a message I am against shallow lake management. I even informed the dnr that I am concerned about indian artifacts being damaged. They informed me that people are contracted for that purpose.
I look at other lakes that have shallow lake managment and they discuss me. Look at them cattails and reeds and a bunch of green alge.
I am against shallow lake management and will keep fighting.
Please understand, I have no hard feelings against the Iowa Dnr and Ducks Unlimited. I think they do great things for the community. I only hope the best for Lizard Lake.
I would like to thank Sean Mccoy, Iowa states attorneys office, and the dnr for there help in getting information when I needed it.
