I was just wondering if the 15% of Money from the duck stamp could of stayed in Iowa for Lake management www.iowadnr.gov/nrc/archive/08may08m.pdf page 27 34155 seems Like a lot of money when The Dnr has problems coming up with money to fix Lakes. Andy

Isn't the purpose of the money going to Canada to do the same things they are saying they are low on money in Iowa to do? With that extra money that they are sending to Canada, they could spend a little bit more money on lakes restoring them. Enough money to scrape the bottom of some lakes that they drain. I am thinking that the DU should not have given the DNR money, because it sounds to me as if the DNR is just repaying the money to DU by sending it to Canada. DU donates money to DNR, DNR donates money to DU to send to Canada, why even donate money if you are just going to get it back for projects that are being done in other countries? I am wondering if those that purchase the duck stamp know how the money is being spent. So the next time the DNR says that they have a budget short-fall, should we ask them about the money that they are sending to Canada? So to answer your question, yes we should use at least 15% of the Duck Stamp because if it is being sent out of state, and out of the country they lose control of that part of the money. Why not put it towards projects in Iowa. Canada has one of the biggest conservation funds in the world, so I don't think they'll miss that money. Iowa has had a duck stamp since 1972, that is 35 years of duck stamp money. Every year except one year this has happened in Iowa. Let's do some math, 34 years times let's be generous here $10,000 that would be a total of $340,000 going to Canada. This math figures the duck stamp revenue has been around for 35 years, and figures a small amount of money to average the 35 years of payment to DU. Budget short-falls, seem not to take into consideration money going out of the country.

Here's an interesting video made by Ducks Unlimited in Canada showing them using a Track Hoe and chainsaws to remove excessive vegetation from one of their wetland projects. Notice all of the bottom sediment they remove also. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lb4y--SgKs
